After being officially presented just a few days ago, the new BMW ActiveHybrid 5 is already scheduled for the United States automarket, hitting the dealerships next year, in March.
The new ActiveHybrid 5 F10 is powered by BMW’s 3.0 liter TwinPower Turbo inline six-cylinder engine, along with an electric drive system, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, where the petrol burner (N55) is delivering 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque, and the electric motor has 55 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque.
The “eco-friendly” F10 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds while averaging 36.8 / 33.6 mpg (best / worst). The ActiveHybrid 5 can be driven on electric power alone to speeds up to 37 mph for 2.5 miles and its electric motor is supplied with energy by a high-performance lithium-ion battery with 96 cells and usable energy capacity of 675 Wh, which has been specially developed for the vehicle and placed in the trunk, being positioned between the wheel arches.
The new generation of the 5-Series in its ActiveHybrid 5 version, is scheduled to hit the over-seas auto market in March next year, with the full details and price being announced closer to its launch date.
