Rides : AMG Director confirming the Mercedes SLC (baby-SLS)

Rumors that a baby-SLS will hit the market in the nearby future have been around for a few months at least but now this has become a reality and the SLC is close to hitting the production line as a direct competitor to the Porsche 911.

According to the AMG performance division’s development director Christoph Jung, the new Mercedes model, which is most likely to be named the SLC, is a priority for AMG, and the German automaker wants some of the 911’s success by using the baby-SLS.

“There is room for an AMG model below the SLS, targeting the Porsche 911. This is the next market for AMG, and we are considering what is the right package”, said Christoph Jung to AutoExpressNews. “It is important to work on our brand and grow it. Look at the Porsche 911 – it is a huge success. They have done a very good job in evolving over the years. Now, thanks to the SLS, companies like Porsche see AMG as competition. Everyone recognizes that AMG can produce super sports cars”.

Even if the German official didn’t announce anything about the SLC’s performance or engine, the baby-SLS is most likely to be powered by a 5.5 liter twin-turbo V8 with around 500 horsepower, estimating that the coupe can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in around four seconds and hitting a top speed of 185 mph or 298 km/h.
The starting price of the new Mercedes SLC is expected to be around 80.000 euros or 106.344 USD.
