After 22-years in the making, Nike Air Mags -- the greatest sneaker to never exist -- are finally REAL. For a lot of Back to the Future fans, myself included, that's a rapturous thing to say. 2015 technology is HERE! However, these are going to be a serious collectors item; Nike only produced only 1500 pairs of Marty McFly's kicks. But, here's the good news: It's for a great cause, as all the shoes are going to be auctioned on eBay, with 100% of proceeds benefit The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. Even better: A Nike rep tells us that all donations will be matched, effectively doubling the contributions from the auction. Kick-ass kicks for a kick-ass cause! That's something we can get behind. Click here to check out really neat, detailed gallery of the special edition Nike Air Mags. Last night Michael J. Fox officially unveiled the shoes on Letterman. You can watch that below, along with a promo . Now, how's the bidding so far?
Insane. As of this writing, one pair is listed for $75,000 (UPDATE: that's changed). In fact, there's not a single bid below $3,000. It's kinda hard to get upset about the price of the flashy shoes when they're going to a great cause. Still, surely some sneakerheads have to be bummed. But, hey! On the bright-side, they're real and awesome and that's just cool. Judging by the insane media reception the unveiling has received, maybe Nike will role out a bigger limited edition release. This pair doesn't have power laces or step-recharge for those LED lights, so here's hoping for the best in 2015. The auction ends on September 18, so get bidding if you can shell out the cash.
